Did you know that the inspiration for many of the characters in the film Frozen come from the Sami , the indigenous people of Scandinavia?
Traditionally known in English as Lapps or Laplanders, their work includes fishing, fur trapping, sheep herding and reindeer herding.
These images from Wikipedia show connections between the costumes in the movie and actual Sami people.
Like many indigenous people, the Sami people are experiencing difficulties coping with the cultural consequences of language and cultural loss as well as environmental threats such as oil exploration, tourism, military bombing ranges, and commercial development. Hopefully their treatment by the film makers is one that they feel honors their people and history.
